Two generations of tidy

From one wheezy second-hand lorry to the cheeriest fleet in Stirlingshire — meet the family behind the tangerine skips, still answering the phone themselves after 25 years.

The Braedale story

It all started with a lorry called Bessie

In 1999, Hamish and Effie Braedale put their savings into one second-hand skip lorry — Bessie, bless her gearbox — and started shifting rubble around Stirling. Hamish drove, Effie ran the books from the kitchen table, and the phone number on the door was their hoose.

These days their daughter Shona runs the show, and no' much else has changed. Ring the yard and a Braedale still picks up — nae call centres, nae hold music, nae bother. We know most of our customers by first name, and a fair few of their dugs too.

The big leap came in 2012, when we opened our own transfer station at Braehead Yard. That's why 92% of everything we collect gets sorted, salvaged and recycled — and why our prices stay wee: no middleman between your skip and the sorting line.

What we stand for

The Braedale way

Three rules, written on the tea-room wall since 1999. Every driver, every skip, every time.

Straight talkin'

The price we quote is the price you pay. Nae hidden fees, nae sneaky surcharges, nae wee surprises on the invoice — just an honest rate agreed up front.

Green to the bone

92% of everything we lift is recycled at our own transfer station, and nothing — ever — gets fly-tipped. We're SEPA licensed and dead proud of it.

Neighbourly

Our drivers ring ahead, lay boards under every skip to save your drive, and sweep up before they roll away. Yer gran would approve.

Driver & skip whisperer

Twenty years behind the wheel and never so much as scratched a gatepost. Can reverse a lorry through a gap you'd think twice about walking through.

Runs the office (and the show)

Hamish and Effie's daughter, now the boss. Answers the phone herself and turns a "how much for a 6-yarder?" into a firm quote in minutes.

Weighbridge & recycling

King of the transfer station. Sorts your rubble from your rubbish so nearly all of it gets a second life instead of a landfill.

The recycling promise

Where your waste actually goes

Every skip comes back to our own transfer station at Braehead Yard, where Wee Hamish and the sorting line get to work. Here's the honest breakdown — no greenwash, just what happens to your stuff:

  • Wood chipped for biomass fuel
  • Metal off to the smelter
  • Rubble crushed into aggregate for new roads
  • Soil screened and reused on local landscaping
  • Cardboard baled and back into the paper mill
